In Tongxiang, Zhejiang, 80 km from Hangzhou. 1,300 years old, it is one of Jiangnan's six great water towns (the others: Zhouzhuang, Tongli, Luzhi, Xitang, Nanxun) and the most intact survival of canal-town life.
Split into the East Scenic Zone (Dongzha — daytime old-town with Mao Dun's residence and heritage workshops) and the West Scenic Zone (Xizha — nightscape water town and the accommodation district, with 12 stone bridges and 60+ historic buildings). Since 2014 Wuzhen has hosted the annual World Internet Conference, raising its international profile.
