1. About teamLab

teamLab is a Japanese interdisciplinary collective of 700+ artists, programmers, engineers, mathematicians and architects, founded in 2001. Their signature is immersive digital art — entire rooms with walls, floors and ceilings as projection surfaces, paired with sensors so that artworks respond to your touch and movement in real time.

teamLab currently has 12 permanent locations worldwide: Tokyo (Toyosu + Azabudai), Shanghai, Beijing, Abu Dhabi, New York, Jakarta, Seoul, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Mecca, Riyadh, and Macau. The Macau venue opened in June 2020 and is the largest single teamLab site in Asia.

2. Top 10 Must-See Installations (of 21)

  1. "Light Sculpture - Lines" — 200+ colour-shifting orbs hanging from the ceiling; wave a hand and a chain reaction follows.
  2. "Floating Flower Garden" — hundreds of glowing blooms drift through an 8-metre room, retreating from approaching visitors.
  3. "Multi-Garden" — mirrored floor + walls, flowers extend into infinity.
  4. "Forest of Resonating Lamps" — walk through a sea of flowers that bloom by season and time of day.
  5. "Universe of Water Particles on a Rock" — droplets ripple onto the floor; touch the ground and flowers bloom.
  6. "Weightless Forest of Resonating Life" — a 45-degree tilted room — your balance is challenged.
  7. "Black Waves" — step on the surface to leave trails of light.
  8. "Beneath the Crystal World" — projected portraits on sculptures shift in real time.
  9. "Sketch Aquarium" — kids' favourite: draw a fish and watch it swim.
  10. "Crystal World" — LED light columns synced to music.

3. Recommended Route (2.5 hours)

There's no enforced route — wander as you wish. But this order tends to maximise the experience:

  1. 11:00 enter: Light Sculpture - Lines (the headliner — go first);
  2. 11:30: Floating Flower Garden (wear white for the best photos);
  3. 12:00: mirrored Multi-Garden zone (allow 30 min);
  4. 12:30: Universe of Water Particles (10 min);
  5. 13:00: Weightless Forest (try the balance);
  6. 13:30: Black Waves interactive zone (kids love this);
  7. 14:00: Crystal World finale (the most stunning);
  8. 14:30 exit, browse Studio City.

  • Barefoot zones: certain rooms require bare feet (socks provided).
  • Wait out the crowd: Light Sculpture - Lines is usually emptiest after 15:00.
