1. Why Choose Zhongshan Hot Spring Resort

Zhongshan Hot Spring Resort is nestled at the foot of Sanmei Mountain in Sanxiang Township, Guangdong's Zhongshan — one of the most historic hot spring destinations in the Pearl River Delta. Built into the hillside with surrounding greenery and pristine air, the resort offers complete escape from urban noise. The hot spring water originates from deep underground and is classified as a natural silica-rich hot spring, rich in minerals and trace elements beneficial for skin health and physical relaxation.

Compared to other hot springs in the Pearl River Delta, Zhongshan Hot Spring Resort stands out for:

  • Exceptional location: only 90 minutes by ferry from Hong Kong, 40 minutes from Macau, and 1.5 hours from Guangzhou — easily accessible from all Pearl River Delta cities.
  • Diverse pool selection: 30+ pools with different themes and benefits, from herbal to flower-petal, from traditional Chinese medicine to wine — multiple experiences in one visit.
  • High-quality accommodation: rooms ranging from standard to mountain-view suites, elegantly decorated with some featuring private hot spring pools.
  • All-in-one resort: hot springs, lodging, dining, spa, and wellness facilities all on-site — perfect weekend away without leaving the resort.

2. Hot Spring Pool Guide

The resort's hot spring area spans a vast expanse with 30+ outdoor and semi-outdoor pools. Water temperatures range from 38 °C warm pools to 72 °C hot pools — choose based on preference and comfort level.

Herbal Wellness Pool Zone

The resort's most popular area, featuring multiple pools infused with different medicinal herbs: ginseng pool, angelica pool, mugwort pool, lavender pool, peppermint pool, and more. Each pool has distinct water color and aroma, providing herbal aromatherapy benefits alongside soaking. We recommend starting with cooler pools like lavender, then gradually progressing to the high-temperature ginseng pool.

Flower-Petal Pools & Specialty Pools

Rose-petal and jasmine-petal pools create a romantic atmosphere, especially popular with couples. Also available: red wine pool, milk pool, coffee pool — specialty pools offering unique experiences. The red wine pool allegedly promotes blood circulation, while the coffee pool's aroma provides an energizing boost.

Fish Therapy & Hydrotherapy Zone

The fish therapy pool is stocked with thousands of small fish that gently nibble away dead skin — both entertaining and beneficial for skincare. Children especially enjoy it. The hydrotherapy area features multiple water jet massage facilities including impact jets, bubble beds, and waterfall massages for muscle relaxation.

Kids' Water Play Area

Dedicated shallow warm spring area designed for children, with water temperature controlled at 35–38 °C for safety and comfort. Features small slides, water spray equipment, and splash pools — a highlight for family trips.

If budget allows, the Private Pool Luxury Package offers in-room hot spring soaking without time limits, making it the best value overall.

4. Room Types

  • Standard Room (28 m²): Basic amenities complete, choice of queen or twin beds, suitable for budget-conscious guests. Garden views from windows.
  • Garden-View Room (35 m²): Larger space with small balcony overlooking resort gardens, rainfall shower in bathroom. Recommended for couples.
  • Mountain Suite (55 m²): Separate living room and bedroom, floor-to-ceiling windows with full Sanmei Mountain views, Nespresso coffee machine and mini-bar.
  • Private Pool Room (45 m²): In-room private hot spring pool (approximately 4 m²), 24-hour natural spring water supply, maximum privacy.

5. Dining Recommendations

Multiple restaurants on-site cater to different preferences — Chinese, Cantonese, Western, and buffet options:

  • Chinese Restaurant: Specializes in Cantonese and Zhongshan local cuisine. Must-tries: stone-kiln squab (Zhongshan specialty), crispy roasted goose, and olive-braised fish. Per capita ¥120–180.
  • Buffet Restaurant: Dinner buffet with extensive selection — seafood, BBQ, desserts, all-inclusive. Usually included with meal packages. Per capita ¥198–268.
  • Grand Hall Lounge: Afternoon tea spot with refined dim sum sets and coffee/tea service. Perfect post-soak relaxation option.
  • Poolside Snack Stands: Available throughout the hot spring area offering congee, dim sum, and beverages for quick energy boosts between soaks.

Special note: Zhongshan is famous nationwide for stone-kiln squab — whether dining at the resort or venturing into Sanxiang Town, this is a must-try dish.

6. Best Time to Visit

  • October – March (Ideal): Autumn-winter temperatures are mild (15–25 °C), making hot water soaking most comfortable. December–January is peak season; book 2 weeks ahead.
  • April – May (Recommended): Spring temperatures are pleasant, gardens are in full bloom with beautiful scenery. Occasional rain.
  • June – September (Possible): Summer heat (30 °C+) makes daytime soaking uncomfortable; evening or night soaks recommended. School holidays bring family crowds.
  • Avoid: National Day Golden Week (Oct 1–7) and Lunar New Year (New Year's Eve to 6th day) — prices double and venues are packed.

7. Transportation Guide

From Hong Kong

Option A (Recommended): Take a high-speed ferry from Hong Kong's Sheung Wan or Tsim Sha Tsui ferry terminals to Zhongshan Port (about 90 minutes, roughly HK$220). From the port, take a taxi approximately 30 minutes to the resort (¥50–70). Multiple daily departures available.

Option B: Take the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge shuttle bus to Zhuhai, then transfer by intercity bus or taxi to Zhongshan (about 1 hour), total around 3 hours.

From Macau

Cross into Zhuhai via the Border Gate (Portas do Cerco), then take an intercity bus or taxi to Zhongshan Sanxiang Township, approximately 40–50 minutes. Most convenient: direct taxi from the border, around ¥120–150.

From Guangzhou

Take the intercity rail from Guangzhou South Station to Zhongshan Station / Zhongshan North Station (40–60 minutes, ¥55–70). From the station, taxi to the resort about 25 minutes. Alternatively, self-drive on the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Expressway, total around 1.5 hours.

From Shenzhen

Use the newly opened Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge for self-driving (about 1 hour direct to Zhongshan). Alternatively, take high-speed rail to Guangzhou South Station, then intercity rail to Zhongshan.

8. Practical Hot Spring Tips

  • Essential items: Swimwear (required), flip-flops, towel, waterproof phone case, water bottle (stay hydrated while soaking).
  • Soaking sequence: Start at lower temperatures (38 °C), gradually acclimate, then progress to higher-temperature pools (45 °C+). Soak each pool 10–15 minutes with 5-minute breaks between.
  • Avoid soaking if: On an empty stomach, within 1 hour after eating, after alcohol consumption, if you have cardiovascular disease, or if pregnant.
  • Best times: 4 pm–8 pm evening to night — as outdoor temperature drops, hot water soaking feels most pleasant. Night soaking under starlight is especially atmospheric.
  • Weekday vs. weekend: Weekdays have fewer crowds and lower prices; weekends busier but more social atmosphere. We suggest Friday check-in, full Saturday soaking.
  • Skin care: After soaking, skin pores expand — apply moisturizing lotion immediately. Facial masks applied in your room post-soak are extra-effective.
  • With children: Children under 3 shouldn't use high-temperature pools. For families, stick to the kids' area where water temperature is lower and safer.
