1. What it is
Completed in 2010 by the Dutch firm IBA, Canton Tower stands 600 m tall — 454 m main structure plus a 146 m mast. At opening it was the tallest tower in the world (later overtaken by Tokyo Skytree).
Its instantly recognisable silhouette — wide at the top and bottom, narrow in the middle (just 30.4 m across at the waist) — earned it the local nickname the "Little Waist". The lattice is woven from 2,400 steel members spiralling up in 24 turns; the curve looks like a slim waistline.
Beyond the 488 m deck, Canton Tower has three world-record extreme attractions:

The "Golden 90 Minutes"
From 30 minutes before sunset to 60 minutes after — the Pearl River and CBD shift from daylight to dusk to full lights. Canton Tower faces the Zhujiang New Town CBD, and the night view is genuinely spectacular. At 19:30 the entire tower runs a full-body light show, cycling from white to red to green.
