1. What it is

Mission Hills opened in 1995 and holds the Guinness World Record for the world's largest golf club. Its 20 sq km hold twelve 18-hole courses, each by a different big name in the sport: Jack Nicklaus, Annika Sörenstam, Greg Norman, Vijay Singh and others. It has hosted the World Cup of Golf, the HSBC Champions and other top events.

Beyond golf, the Volcanic Hot Spring Resort opened in 2007 with 165 themed pools — amber, jade, green tea, coffee, wine, rose, mint and more — each with a different stated benefit. The resort also hosts eight 5-star hotels, a spa centre, and Michelin-starred restaurants.

3. The 165 themed pools

The Mission Hills volcanic hot springs are South China's most famous resort of their kind, organised into nine themed zones:

• Amber zone — 5 pools, amber minerals for joint relief;
• Herbal zone — 10 pools: rose, lavender, mint, lemon;
• Wine pools — red, white and champagne pools;
• Coffee pool — caffeine for circulation;
• Jade-stone pool — natural jade beds;
• Green-tea pool — Taiwanese oolong;
• Kids' pools — warm-water children's area;
• Mud / sand bath — face and body treatments;
• Snow cave — –15°C cold plunge after the sauna.

4. Golf experience

Selected courses open to non-members:

• 9-hole experience: ¥380 (no equipment) / ¥580 (gear + caddie);

• Beginner driving range: ¥200 / 1 hour (100 balls + 30-min instruction);

5. Best time to visit

• October–December: ideal weather (20–25°C).
• January–February: hot-spring high season — cold air outside makes the warm pools sublime.
• Avoid: June–September (Shenzhen heat and storms).
• Best day: Tuesday or Wednesday for fewer people; weekends with the night session have the best atmosphere.

6. How to get there

• Metro: Line 4, "Mission Hills" — direct.
• From the city: 50 min on the metro.
• From Hong Kong: cross at Lo Wu → Line 4, ~1.5 h.
• Didi / taxi: ¥80 from downtown.
• Free shuttle: hourly from Shenzhen Airport.

7. How to save money

• Avoid public holidays: weekends + holidays add 30%;
• Children under 1.0 m free;

8. Practical tips

• Bring: swimsuit, towel (provided but limited), waterproof phone case.
• Not allowed: outside food in the hot-spring zone.
• Children: under 1.4 m must be accompanied.
• High blood pressure / heart conditions: skip the high-temperature pools.
• Time slots: hot springs don't require a reserved time — in and out all day.
• Hotel: check-in 14:00, check-out 12:00.
• Spa: in-package spa requires booking 24 hours ahead.
